Created after the artist’s arrival in Japan, the work reflects an experience of crossing between cultural landscapes. The joined forms suggest a moment of transition between the political intensity and visible polarization often felt in the United States and the quieter civic atmosphere encountered in Japan.
The resulting structure becomes a small monument to that passage: a space where pressure gives way to a more contemplative equilibrium, while still bearing the marks of the forces that shaped it.
